In course of time Vyasa bearing in mind the intelligence and short life span of humanity at large considered his compilation of the Vedas to be too difficult, so he divided the Vedic knowledge into different branches.
Srimad Bhagavatam, Canto 2, chapter 7, verse 36
Anyone can say, “I am guru. He is not guru.” Imitation is always possible, but the scriptures give the criterion for the selection of a real Guru, and the real Guru will extract the meaning of the scripture. Guru and śāstra are interdependent. One will help another for our edification. The scriptures say we must read the scripture under the guidance of a proper professor, a Vaiṣṇava Guru (Āchāryavān puruṣo veda). So, the scripture is dependent on the Spiritual Master. And who is a Spiritual Master? The scriptures will explain. So they are interdependent: sādhu and śāstra are both necessary. They are the active and the passive agents.

The Maya-Sakti is very heavy for us because we are very tiny souls. She is always attracting us through her illusion. In one way, it is for our rectification, no doubt, but it is not a happy position for the conditioned souls. However, we will get relief from this environment if we try to know our position, and what is Krishna consciousness. If we do this, then by the mercy of Krishna and His devotee we will get strength to come out from the illusory environment, and, when we try, Krishna will help us. That assistance comes to us through His devotees. Everything comes through the proper channel. Sometimes direct mercy comes from the upper level, but normally, or generally, it comes through the established proper channel:

Srila Gurudev is the transcendental Medium and embodiment of pure service to Lord Krsna, by aspiring to please and serve him by our humble service offerings we are supremely blessed. He offers our ingredients and love upward to his Guru and on toward the lotus feet of Sri Sri Radha and Krsna. Dayala Nitai!
